Chhath Puja special: How to make Rasiyaw (Gur ki kheer)


Gur ki kheer also known as Rasiway in Bihar is a traditional delicacy prepared during the four day festival of Chhath and is offered to the Sun Lord and Chhathi Maiya. Kheer is considered pious as per Hindu beliefs and is offered as a prasad. Here’s a simpl;e recipe, which you can follow and make at home.


1/2 cup basmati rice, 1 1/4 cup powdered jaggery½ tsp powdered green cardamom, 1 1/2 litre milk, ½ cup fresh malai, 1/4 cup cashews, 1/4 cup almonds, 1/4 cup raisins.


To begin with this easy recipe, wash and soak the rice.


Meanwhile, take a deep bottomed pan and add milk, heat this over medium flame. Add in the rice and keep stirring it over low heat.


Take a pan, add in ghee and allow it to melt.


Once the ghee melts, add in the nuts and dry fruits in ghee and then transfer to a plate and keep it aside.

In the meantime, take a pan and heat water, then add in jaggery and make a smooth jaggery paste. Turn off the heat.


Add in this jaggery syrup to the kheer followed by cardamom powder, nuts and dry fruits, mix it all together and simmer it for sometime.
