South-Indian Beetroot Ginger Rasam to heal winter woes


Winter season is here and so are the winter related ailments like cold, cough, sore throat and fever. Most people opt for pills to heal such common ailments, but you will be amazed to know that this classic Beetroot Ginger Rasam is a healthy South Indian appetizer, which can fix winter ailments easily.


Beetroot Ginger Rasam is a perfect melange of strong flavours of ginger, tamarind cooked with the goodness of beetroot and tomatoes. So, follow us through this simple recipe and enjoy.​


2 medium sized beetroots, 1 ½ inch ginger, 1 piece of tamarind, 2 small tomato, 1 tbsp rasam masala, ½ tsp turmeric, 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp red chili powder,


To begin with this easy recipe, wash and peel the beetroot, follow this with other veggies and herbs, keep aside.


Water as needed, 3 whole red chilies, 10-11 curry leaves, 2 tbsp ghee, 1 tbsp toor dal, 1 large onion, ½ cup coconut shavings, 2 handful coriander leaves for garnish, 1 pinch asafoetida (hing), salt and pepper to taste.


Now, take a small bowl and soak the tamarind in warm water for about 15 minutes.Squeeze and extract the tamarind juice, discarding the pulp and seeds.
